Complete water treatment solution for beverage production

This reference project shows how a complete water treatment solution for beverage production can combine filtration, disinfection, process monitoring, automation and hygienic stainless steel piping into one reliable system. The goal was to ensure stable water quality, process hygiene and efficient operation for a demanding production environment.

In the beverage industry, water quality, hygiene and process reliability are critical. FILTER designed and installed a complete modern water treatment plant for an Estonian beverage producer. The solution included water treatment equipment, measurement technology, automation and stainless steel process piping.

FILTER was responsible for the project from engineering and equipment supply to installation, automation integration and system commissioning. The completed solution enables the water treatment process to be monitored and controlled from one central control environment.

Water treatment and water quality control

At the core of the water treatment plant are EUROWATER iron removal filters, which remove iron and other unwanted compounds from raw water before it is directed to the production process.

The solution helps ensure stable water quality during both high production volumes and periods of lower water demand.

As an additional treatment stage, a sterile filter was integrated into the system to help maintain water quality throughout the process. Sterile filtration is an important part of water treatment in beverage production, where hygiene, process control and product safety are essential.

Disinfection and hygiene

To support the hygienic condition of process water, FILTER installed a Grundfos Oxiperm Pro system. The system supports the disinfection of water and helps maintain hygienic conditions in the water treatment and piping system.

Water quality is monitored using a HACH DR900 portable colorimeter, which allows operators to quickly check important water treatment parameters, including iron levels.

The water treatment plant was also designed to make cleaning and maintenance as efficient as possible. The solution supports CIP cleaning processes — Cleaning-In-Place — allowing equipment to be cleaned without dismantling the system.

Measurement technology and process automation

To monitor the water treatment process, FILTER installed KROHNE flowmeters. These instruments measure flow rates and provide reliable data on water movement through the system. The measurement data gives operators the information needed to control and optimize the process.

Grundfos pumps were used to ensure the required flow and pressure in different process stages. Automated control allows pump operation to be adjusted according to actual process demand.

The entire water treatment plant is controlled by a central automation system. Operators can monitor key process data in real time, including water quality parameters, flow rates, pressures, equipment status and process events.
