    The first electrode water heating boiler in Latvia and the largest in the Baltics is now in operation! 

    The 49 MW electrode boiler, delivered by FILTER, has been successfully installed and commissioned at the RĪGAS SILTUMS heat plant “Imanta.” 

    Seeing this project move from delivery to full operation is an exciting milestone for everyone involved and an important step forward for sustainable district heating in Latvia. 

    This technology allows heat to be produced using electricity when prices are lower, helping to reduce production costs. At the same time, it supports sustainability goals — whenever the electrode boiler replaces natural gas, it reduces fossil fuel use and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.

    The boiler is also certified to provide frequency balancing services for the electricity transmission system, including mFRR and aFRR, enabling RĪGAS SILTUMS to contribute to grid stability and support the integration of renewable energy. 

    “Success Driven!” — this is how FILTER representative Kristaps Ramiņš describes this important milestone in the development of Latvia’s energy sector. 

    The FILTER team was honored to participate in the official commissioning event, marking the start of operation of this fast-acting 49 MW electrode water heating boiler — a significant contribution to the modernization of Riga’s heat supply and the transition toward more flexible and sustainable energy solutions. 

    RĪGAS SILTUMS continues to develop a modern, sustainable, and reliable district heating system, and we are glad to be part of this significant step forward.
