    Delivery and commissioning of a 49 MW Electrode Boiler at district heating plant

    FILTER participated in a major energy project – the installation of an electrode water-heating boiler at the Imanta CHP Plant, located at 17 Kurzemes Prospect, Riga, Latvia. The project involved the installation of a 49 MW electrode water-heating boiler, the first solution of its kind in Latvia and the most powerful in the Baltics. This project significantly enhances the flexibility of the energy system and supports sustainable heat supply, enabling efficient use of electricity for heat production while also participating in electricity transmission system balancing services.

    FILTER provided a full-cycle engineering solution, including:

    • Management and design of the construction project, covering architecture, building structures, thermal engineering, water supply and sewerage (including fire water supply and fire automation systems), and preparation of fire safety overview documentation;
    • Project author supervision;
    • Supply of thermal-mechanical equipment, including the main 49 MW electrode water-heating boiler, pumps, heat exchanger, main valves, and other fittings;
    • Supply, installation, and programming of medium-voltage and low-voltage equipment;
    • Development, supply, and programming of the SCADA system;
    • Qualification of the electrode boiler, enabling participation in electricity transmission system frequency balancing services (mFRR, aFRR);
    • Commissioning and testing of the equipment and fulfillment of functional guarantees;
    • Preparation of as-built and operational documentation;
    • Personnel training.

    The project delivers a modern, flexible, and energy-efficient heat production solution while simultaneously strengthening the stability of Latvia’s electricity system.
