Jenbacher engine service, maintenance and overhauls

Engine condition affects electricity generation and the heat supply from a combined heat and power (CHP) plant.

Regular inspections and well-planned maintenance help identify changes in operation, assess the work required and prepare for service shutdowns.

Service offerings

  • Daily checks and routine inspections

Daily operator checks help track equipment operation between service visits. Technical inspections and diagnostics by FILTER specialists provide a more detailed assessment of engine condition and the maintenance or repair work required.

During an inspection, we review the available operating data, equipment condition and any reported deviations. The findings guide our recommendations and the planning of further service work. We agree operator and service technician responsibilities, together with inspection frequency, according to plant operating requirements and the service arrangement.

  • Scheduled maintenance

We organise maintenance according to the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule for the individual Jenbacher engine. Preparation takes account of the engine model, operating hours and available records of previous service work.

The scope may include condition checks and the replacement of consumables and components specified in the maintenance schedule. Planning ahead helps coordinate the necessary spare parts, equipment access and timing of the work with the plant’s electricity and heat production requirements.

  • Minor overhaul

A minor overhaul is a planned stage of engine component refurbishment. Depending on the model and maintenance schedule, work may cover cylinder heads, piston and cylinder assemblies, the ignition system and the turbocharger.

FILTER specialists assess component condition and carry out the required repairs or replacements to manufacturer requirements. We agree the specific scope after reviewing the engine’s technical information and maintenance documentation.

  • Major overhaul

A major overhaul involves more extensive engine refurbishment, as specified in the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule or identified through a condition assessment. Work may include a detailed examination of the engine, assessment of wear in major assemblies and the necessary refurbishment or replacement work.

We plan the overhaul around the condition of the individual engine and the plant’s operating requirements. The scope and organisation of the work are agreed with the customer so that the plant can prepare for a more extensive shutdown.

  • Service agreements and emergency support

FILTER provides 24/7 emergency and breakdown support for service contract customers in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Bulgaria. The service agreement defines the scope of support and response conditions.

Certified technicians carry out maintenance and repairs using components, tools and procedures that meet manufacturer requirements. The service arrangement establishes the planned work and responsibilities for its delivery.

Frequently asked questions

  • How often does a Jenbacher engine need maintenance?

Maintenance intervals are defined in the Jenbacher maintenance schedule for the individual engine. FILTER plans and carries out the required maintenance in accordance with this schedule, taking into account operating hours, service history and the engine’s technical condition.

  • Can a major overhaul be combined with an engine upgrade?

For eligible engine models and versions, a major overhaul can be combined with a manufacturer-approved upgrade. The available options depend on the engine’s configuration and the technical requirements of the upgrade package. Discuss the applicable options with your FILTER service team when preparing the overhaul scope.

  • What determines the cost and duration of an overhaul?

The engine model, condition, agreed scope and availability of the required components affect cost and duration. We prepare a proposal after reviewing the technical information and, where necessary, carrying out an inspection or detailed condition assessment.
